About Us

Milton

Milton has a population of about 2000. There is good schooling available, both primary and secondary. The Woollen Mill employs around 50 people, and forest industries are developing. There are well established shearing and boat-building industries within the town. Others travel out of town to work. We are looking forward to the challenge and opportunities of the new prison to be established at Milburn, which is about 3km from Milton.

Lawrence

The population of Lawrence is approximately 470 (2001 census). The town has been building on its historical significance, and so the last few years have seen development of the Museum and Information Centre, and the opening of a variety of cafes in the township itself. The Tuapeka Gold Print company employs about 50 people and produces a wide variety of souvenir and advertising material.

Although Otago's population is about 6% Maori, Milton's is about 13% and as a parish we are aware of our connectedness with members of Tikanga Maori. We seek to be involved in our communities. As well as involvement in a variety of Clubs we share with other Christians in the operation of the local Foodbanks. Members of the congregation contribute to our community as budget Advisors, helpers at the CARE group for the elderly, drivers for those no longer able to drive, and assistants at the opportunity shop.
