We are a Local Shared
Ministry Parish
Local Shared Ministry is:
A way of structuring ministry so that the local church . . .
- Is responsible
for establishing priorities for mission and ministry.
- Is a place where
every member is a minister. It is a ministering community, not a community
with a minister.
- Helps us recognise
that everyone has spiritual gifts.
- Sees our daily
lives as the main area for ministry.
- Is rooted in scripture
- 1 Corinthians 2: 11, Ephesians 4: 7-12.
How is it different?
- St Michael and
All Angels Church, Te Anau, is committed to Local Shared Ministry.
- We have a Ministry
Support Team made up of people from our faith community. They are
"called" by the community and licensed by our Diocesan Bishop.
- We no longer have
a priest living in the area and responsible for all the ministry.
- In this parish,
all of the Team members are lay people.
- We have a Support
Priest (licensed to us by the Bishop) who visits us at least once a month.
- We are also assisted
by an Enabler (licensed to us by the Bishop), who comes to Vestry and Team
meetings, worships with us when possible, and is our official link with
the Diocese, helping us keep a wider view of being church.
