NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN OFFICE

ORDINATION & INSTALLATION OF OUR BISHOP ELECT THIS SATURDAY 27TH AT 1:00 PM AT ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL
  • All Clergy are invited to robe and wear red stoles.
  • Archdeacons (lay or ordained) are invited to robe and process.
  • We also welcome all ALLMs who wish to robe and process.
The robing areas will be the Chapter room and the Dean’s foyer.  If the weather is fine, I hope that we will form the procession in the carpark and process from there; if we are unlucky, the procession will have to form up along the corridor of the Dean’s foyer at the foot of the stairs.
  • Tea and biscuits will be available before the service for those travelling.
Parking on Saturday 27th February, a very busy day in Dunedin City
Saturday 27th February is a very busy day in Dunedin City.  Not only is there the most important Ordination and Installation of our ninth Bishop of Dunedin.  There are three other activities taking place in and around the Octagon that day.  The 150th Army Parade starts at 12pm, then at 2.30pm there will be a Chinese Festival and due to a Cruise Ship being in town, the street outside the Cathedral will be blocked off all day.  All these activities will make it difficult for those wanting parking.  We suggest that you leave yourselves plenty of time to find a park.

For those wanting to drop passengers off, please to do so using the Moray Street entrance. Those with a disability who need to be dropped off  right outside the Cathedral door you will need to ask the person standing at the Stuart Street barricade (very politely please), if you can drop your passenger off at the door.
“STRICTLY ONLY THOSE WITH DISABILITIES TO BE DROPPED OFF AT THE CATHEDRAL DOOR PLEASE”.

Reminder of the Live Broadcast of the Ordination and Installation Service
For those of you who are unable to attend the Installation and Ordination of our Bishop-Elect on Saturday 27th but would still like to be part of the whole experience.
Please go to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/Gfs-chapel as Gillion’s Funeral Services have very kindly offered to do a live broadcast from the Cathedral for us.  The service starts at 1:00 pm so the site will not be live until then.

REMINDER     REMINDER     REMINDER     REMINDER
  • Statistical and the Annual Return forms - please don’t forget to fill in your forms after your AGM and return them to the Diocesan Office in the self address envelope included this year.
  • Lay Licences - Just a wee reminder that all Lay Licences expire on the Eve of Pentecost 2010.  EVERY APPLICANT - whether RENEWING their licence or applying for a NEW licence will need to fill in a Consent to Disclosure Form (i.e. Police Check).
  • Archbishop Jabez Bryce Memorial Book - by now everyone should have received their page.  We ask that you identify on the page the name of your parish, and ask all clergy, wardens and any parishioners who would like to write a message of condolence to do so.  Then please return them to Diocesan Office no later than the 1st March.  Hope and Sons have very kindly offered to put them all into a Memorial Book for us and we will send it to the Diocese of Polynesia.
Thank you.

(Followed by soup and rolls)
Speaking Into the Silence: Poets and God
These (30 minute) opportunities for prayer and reflection are led by the Dean.  The meditations will explore how poets engage with issues of faith and doubt; venture into the silence of God, and may encourage us in our journeying.  Over the 5 weeks, the poets featured will include John Donne, T. S. Eliot, James K. Baxter, Ursula Bethell, and R.S.Thomas.

Celtic Style Eucharist -- Encircling Creation--
You are invited to participate in a CELTIC STYLE EUCHARIST on FRIDAY, 26th FEBRUARY at 12.10p.m. in the  crypt of ST. PAULS CATHEDRAL
the theme is;- " ENCIRCLING CREATION---awareness, protection, vision---"
Please bring lavender and herbs for strewing, and a symbol of Creation.
Encircling has been a way of praying for many centuries.  It can enable us to be more fully aware of our place in the universe, to affirm our sense of community, and also to imbibe us with vision for the future.  In Celtic spirituality, encircling is also bestowed upon someone about to enter a new part of his/her journey---

GENERAL NOTICES

Seven Weeks for Water 2010: Holy Water
Make Lent a time to promote water justice and water as a human right.
The weekly meditations for the seven weeks of Lent are a way of trying to raise awareness of water and justice around World Water Day on 22 March.  Each week during Lent a short biblical meditation will be posted here along with some campaigning links and ideas.
This year we will delve into “Holy Water”, our theme for 2010.  We would like to explore what the meaning and use of water in our liturgical traditions can tell us about the meaning and use of water in our everyday life? And vice versa - how can the reality of water today, including the crisis of water, inform and inspire our liturgical use of water?

DEATH NOTICE

The Rev. Dr. Nan Burgess died towards the end of last week.  For those of us who did our academic study at Knox Theological Hall, she was a great source of strength, courage and wisdom.  She led more than one workshop on Christian Education/Ministry with Children in our Diocese during the days of the Diocesan Board for Christian Education (DBCE), and facilitated gatherings of ecumenical women at Teschemakers, enabling and strengthening us in our ministries.  There will an opportunity to celebrate her life on SUNDAY, 7th MARCH, at 7p.m. as part of the evening service at Knox Church, George Street, Dunedin.  There will be a pot-luck tea at 5.30p.m. in the Gathering Place, between the hall and the church.  For more information, please contact the Rev. Sarah Mitchell, Minister of Knox Church.

DIOCESAN PRAYERS

Please keep the following people in your prayers: Claire Johnson and her family and Pamela Laytham.
