NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN OFFICE

Requiem Eucharist for Archbishop Jabez Bryce at St Paul’s Cathedral, Dunedin
The funeral service for Archbishop Jabez Bryce, Bishop of Polynesia, takes place in Suva this Thursday.  He was the longest serving bishop in the Anglican Communion and is being described as a prince of the church.  We will be holding our own service for Archbishop Jabez as follows:
St Paul’s Cathedral, Thursday 18th February @ 12.30pm
On behalf of the Diocese, the Cathedral will be collecting a koha, please mark your  koha ‘for Archbishop Jabez Bryce’.

Archbishop Jabez Bryce Memorial Book
We will also be sending out to all parishes, pages of a memorial book donated to us from Hope and Sons, Dunedin.  We ask that you identify on the page the name of your parish, and ask all clergy, wardens and any parishioners who would like to write a message of condolence to do so.  Then please return them to Diocesan Office no later than the 1st March.  Hope and Sons have very kindly offered to put them all into a Memorial Book for us and we will send it to the Diocese of Polynesia.

Ordination & Installation of our Bishop Elect
27 February 2010 @ 1pm – The Bishop Elect, The Venerable Dr Kelvin Wright will be Ordained and Installed as the ninth Bishop of Dunedin at St Paul’s Cathedral.  Tea and biscuits will be available before the service for those travelling.

(All Clergy are invited to robe and wear red stoles.)

Parking on Saturday 27th February, a very busy day in Dunedin City
Saturday 27th February is a very busy day in Dunedin City.  Not only is there the most important Ordination and Installation of our ninth Bishop of Dunedin.  There are three other activities taking place in and around the Octagon that day.  The 150th Army Parade starts at 12pm, then at 2.30pm there will be a Chinese Festival and due to a Cruise Ship being in town, the street outside the Cathedral will be blocked off all day.  All these activities will make it difficult for those wanting parking.  We suggest that you leave yourselves plenty of time to find a park.

For those wanting to drop passengers off, please to do so using the Moray Street entrance. Those with a disability who need to be dropped off  right outside the Cathedral door you will need to ask the person standing at the Stuart Street barricade (very politely please), if you can drop your passenger off at the door.
“STRICTLY ONLY THOSE WITH DISABILITIES TO BE DROPPED OFF AT THE CATHEDRAL DOOR PLEASE”.

S. Eliot, James K. Baxter, Ursula Bethell, and R.S.Thomas.

Celtic Style Eucharist -- Encircling Creation--
You are invited to participate in a CELTIC STYLE EUCHARIST on FRIDAY, 26th FEBRUARY at 12.10p.m. in the  crypt of ST. PAULS CATHEDRAL
the theme is;- " ENCIRCLING CREATION---awareness, protection, vision---"
Please bring lavender and herbs for strewing, and a symbol of Creation.
Encircling has been a way of praying for many centuries.  It can enable us to be more fully aware of our place in the universe, to affirm our sense of community, and also to imbibe us with vision for the future.  In Celtic spirituality, encircling is also bestowed upon someone about to enter a new part of his/her journey---

GENERAL NOTICES

2010 Stamp Project
Money raised through the sale of stamps in 2010 is going towards purchasing an outboard motor.  Our target is $5000 – total so far is $960.

Vunirara is in the coastal area of Labasa in the Vanua Levu & Taveuni Episcopal unit.  The clergy in this worship centre travels the coastal area to visit three other centres where there are parishioners living in the copra estates.  Purchase of an outboard engine for a boat will make it easier to travel.  Currently they pay $F120 per boat trip for the priest to visit the different areas.

We thank you for your kind donations of stamps.  Every little bit helps towards raising funds for Overseas Missions.

Message from the Secretary General
The Date of Easter 2010 and 2011
Christians throughout the world should be aware that the date of Easter as calculated by both Eastern and Western traditions in Christianity will fall on the same day in both 2010 and 2011.
Members of the Anglican Communion, especially those with close relationships with the Orthodox families of Churches, both Eastern and Oriental, may wish to take the opportunity to mark this in some way, perhaps by sending greetings to their Orthodox neighbours or some meaningful joint gesture.
With good wishes.
The Revd Canon Dr Kenneth Kearon
Secretary General of the Anglican Communion
